Hungary interested in Caspian gas, minister says

Hungary is committed to including Caspian gas in the country’s energy balance, but there are certain difficulties for this, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said at the Baku Energy Forum on Thursday, AzVision.az reports.

He said that there is a debate in Europe not only about how to completely abandon Russian gas, but also about how to replace it.

“When it comes to sanctions, we cannot fully apply them, because there is a very big dependence. We approach this issue pragmatically, from the point of view of the use of Caspian energy resources,” he said, adding that one of the difficulties is the lack of pipeline infrastructure, which complicates this intention.

“Europe needs to think about how additional resources will be used,” he noted.

The Hungarian minister also mentioned the problem of high energy prices.
